What is Klarna?

Klarna is a payment provider based in Sweden. They have over 60 million registered customers worldwide and they offer a ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ service. The service allows you to pay for your purchase 30 days after your order has been placed.

Am I eligible to use Klarna’s Buy Now, Pay Later service?

To pay for your purchase using this service, you must be over 18 years old. Klarna’s service are also subject to your current financial circumstances. When selecting Klarna at the checkout, they will perform a ‘soft credit search’ with the relevant credit reference agencies.

How does it work?

You place your order > your order is despatched > within 72 hours you will receive an email from Klarna with payment instructions > you then have 30 days from the date of your order to make full payment for your purchase > complete your payment online with no extra costs.

What you need to provide when you place your order

When choosing Klarna as your payment method, you must enter the correct email address and mobile phone number. The payment instruction will be sent you via email, so if your email address is incorrect you won’t receive the payment instructions and will become liable for late payment fees. This may also adversely affect your credit score, so please ensure that your details are 100% accurate before placing your order.

Will a credit check be performed by Klarna?

Unrecorded enquires, also know as soft credit searches, that do not affect your credit scoring and are only visible to you and Klarna and not visible to other lenders, may be performed during the process of placing your order and paying by Klarna. Klarna does not run credit searches which could affect your credit rating.

How can I increase my chances of being accepted for Klarna’s Buy Now, Pay Later payment option?

Not everybody will be eligible for this payment method. Klarna uses a number of factors to decide whether or not your purchase is eligible for this service, these include, but are not limited to, order value, previous order history and product and service availability. You must be 18 to use this service. To maximise your chances of acceptance and being offered Pay Later, please ensure that you enter your address and personal details with maximum accuracy and also ensure that your order is being shipped to your registered billing address. Each order is judged by Klarna on an individual basis, just because you have been accepted by Klarna previously, it does not mean that you will be accepted every time you attempt top use this payment option. Equally, if you have been denied by Klarna previously, it does not mean that you will be denied access to this payment method again.

How do I pay Klarna for my purchase?

You can pay for your order via your Klarna account using a debit or credit card. If you cancel or return your order, Klarna will automatically update your statement. Please note that if you return your item after the 30 day ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ period, you will be required to make full payment to Klarna before the payment deadline.

When is payment due and what happens if payment is not made by you to Klarna

Payment is due 30 days from the date your order is placed. Klarna will confirm the payment deadline on the email they send you with payment instructions, To make sure you don’t miss the payment deadline, Klarna will email you 2 days prior to the deadline, please be sure to check your junk mail folder for the email if you do not receive it. If you are late, Klarna will send you email reminders and possibly a text message or a letter. If you fail to pay Klarna for your order your credit score will be negatively affected. Your credit score may also be negatively affected if you pay late.

The information required when placing your order and paying by Klarna

If you want to take advantage of Klarna’s Buy Now, Pay Later service, you will need to provide your name, address, email address and telephone number. For some orders, Klarna may ask you to enter your mobile phone number and date of birth. All information will be sent to you by Klarna via your email address that is why it’s imperative that you enter your details accurately otherwise you may not receive the payment instruction and payment reminders. This could result in you facing late payment fees and your credit score being negatively impacted.

When can I make payment to Klarna, and can I pay for my purchase early?

You can make payment to Klarna anytime after receiving the payment instruction email. Please make sure that you make full payment before the payment deadline.

How do I know if my payment has been received?

You can login to your Klarna account at any time to check your account status and verify that payment has been received.

I haven’t received any emails or my statement from Klarna

If 72 hours or more has passed since placing your order and you haven't received any statement or payment instructions from Klarna, please contact them urgently to check that they have your correct details.

I haven’t received my goods

Please contact us at the earliest opportunity. You can also contact Klarna customer services to advise them and they will also be able to assist you.

What happens if I cancel my order?

Your payment to Klarna will be cancelled for the eligible items which have been cancelled. Once your return/cancellation has been processed, your Klarna statement will be updated within 5 business days.

I have requested a refund or returned my items for a refund, how will I be refunded?

If you have paid Klarna for your order using a credit or debit card, the monies for the refund will be paid back to the same credit or debit card used to pay Klarna. If you have not yet paid for your order, your refund will reduce the statement amount or cancel it completely, this depends on whether you return your full order or just part of it. If you are in doubt as to whether your refund will be processed in time, please contact Klarna customer services for them to advise you further on payment requirements.
